I woke to the sound of snoring, coming from the bunk under mine. It must have been about three in the morning, based on Alfonz's usual pattern. He'd just returned from another night of carousing, collapsed onto his bed, and immediately begun snoring. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one who resented it. I heard six or seven shoes hit Alfonz's inert body, or the ground near his bed. He let out a frustrated "Bah!" and rolled over. Soon it was quiet again. I could have gone back to sleep, but for some reason that night I decided to take a walk instead.
I climbed down the bunk and tread quietly out of the room. On my way downstairs, I saw Tina sleeping quietly, in her spot next to the doorway of the second floor bedroom.
| I was tempted to wake her, to see if she wanted to go with me for a while, but hesitated. | She was the smallest, so she always seemed to get squeezed out. |
