He gave a nervous laugh through his nose, and started fidgeting in the chair. "Sit still!" I shouted, and brought the knife down into the seat of the chair, between his spread thighs. He froze. Breathing heavily, he cowered and looked at the floor.
"That's better," I said. "See, it doesn't have to be difficult. Are you ready to listen to my side of the story now?"
He nodded, but kept his eyes on the floor.
"Good. Listen the first time for once, and don't make me repeat it." He didn't budge. "Now, I'm a good person. I'm a very forgiving sort. But what you did to me and my family... it hurt me very deeply." I paced around the chair as I spoke. Remembering his betrayal filled me with nervous energy. "Did you ever consider that it might?"
He sat there, uncertain whether I was really asking the question. I tapped him on the top of the head with the butt of the knife. "Helloooo? Did you ever consider that you might have hurt someone with your thoughtless actions?"
| I don't think he had thought about it. | The man in the chair shook his head. |
