And her dream would not be Pongo's dream of domination, but a dream of service to lemurkind. A dream that would lead her species to someday look the humans in the eye as equals. It would take time, she knew, but would be worth it. Pongo was wrong to think that imitating humans was the way to advance lemurs. The stink and scratch of the human makings was anathema. As lemurs advanced, they would have their own makings. They would keep their own ways. And someday the humans would look up to them. The first step, she realized, must be to master fire. The wind smelled of coming thunder. She would pile small dry grass and wood atop the boulder where lightning often struck. She should not have long to wait.
And sure enough, she did not. Thirty seconds later, the first bolt of lightening landed in the middle of pile of grass igniting it in a glorious blaze. Then she heard the voice.
"Looka!" she heard it say. "Looka!" it demanded.
After a pause she replied,
"Charlton? Charlton Heston. Is that you?"
"Yes, Looka. I've been waiting for you. You must follow in my footsteps. You must take up my cause. You must demand the lemurs' rightful place on the earth and free them. I will see that plagues are sent down to punish your oppressors if they do not heed your words."
Immediately, Looka knew what to do. She recognized a threat to lemur civilization when she saw it. Immediately, she threw dirt on the fire, putting it out, stilling the voice. The last thing she wanted to do was to bring Hollywood to the Lemurs. She ran home as quickly as she could, vowing that she would never play with fire again and that she would develop only the traditional Lemur arts in her efforts to build her species' future. She told no one about the voice of Heston. She would ignite dreams of neither fire nor firearms in her community. And the Lemurs lived happily ever after.
