The ruler of the ants, Cleopantra, could see that her lovers envied her her position, her power, her other partners, but she longed to get away. To be alone. To evade the feeling of responsibilitly that oppressed her. She kept a private store of vacation advertisements carried away from newspapers carelessly abandoned by the humans. She wondered most about the photographs of vessels that seemed to ride in a wide blue field. What was the blue field? How did one get there? She had been considering the possiblities for a long time.
Margaret was bored. She was ashamed of her boredom. She covered it with a veneer smile that peeled at the edges. But it was true. She was bored. Life in a travel agency was not all it glitz and glamour. It paid well enough, she supposed, but there was something inately frustrating about selling something that she couldn't afford. It all seemed so... pointless. She imagined the butlers in the innumerable mystery movies she'd seen over the years. They stood stoicly, content with their lot to live amidst opulence without ever tasting it. This did not suit Margaret at all. She stared at her monitor. She stared at her posters. She stared at her brochures.
She sighed. It was time to call it a day. Sure, it was only two, but that was the advantage of owning her own business.
She headed out the door into the beauty of the afternoon and decided, spur of the moment, to head over to the zoo. She had heard from a client that they had just opened the new lemur exhibit.
She knew it was as close to Madagascar as she was ever going to get.
The End.
