She'd always been a bit dim. Incapable of seeing the big picture. He'd loved her for her body, plain and simple. It was a bonus that he could, on occasion, have a decent conversation with her, even though her views were invariably simple-minded, if not simply wrong.
Yes, Pongo was glad he was moving on. Madagascar really wasn't the place for a lemur of ambition. He'd talked himself hoarse, trying to stir the others to acts of greatness, but his motivational speeches had fallen on deaf, fur-tufted ears. His greatest ambition- "Lemur Land", still existed only his mind. He thought back on them all fondly, though. He made a promise to himself that when he made it (and he knew he would), that he'd come back here, to his people, and better them in some way. No, they didn't understand his dreams now, but that didn't mean that they couldn't still be part of the dream later on. Besides, someone was going to have to work the concession stands once Lemur Land opened.
For the price of a few bananas, Pongo convinced some of the chimpanzees, who had the access to the Internet that he lacked, to post the press release he had written about Lemur Land on the zoo web site. For a while, he heard nothing, but eventually, one day, a man named in a cheap suit, hair greased back, with a firm handshake and fast talk, came to enquire about his ideas. Pongo was thrilled. At last his genius was being recognized. He talked a blue streak. He told the man, Jimmy, everything he knew. All about his plans for Lemur Land. He showed architect's drawings. He talked advertising strategy. He explained his marketing strategy for Lemur toys for Christmas. 125 different lemur characters would be developed--and the kids would have to get them all. Jimmy hung on his every word, called him brilliant, fed him delicacies. Finally, when Pongo had told Jimmy everything he knew, Jimmy told Pongo that he needed to go to his office to get the papers drawn up.
Jimmy then slipped around to the "servitors" and convincing faked a rabid Lemur bite. Pongo was immediately "put to sleep." When Looka read the news in the Lemur Times, she laughed. "Self-aggrandizing, self-indulgent little twit," she said to herself. I always knew that he would die from an overdose of flattery.
