It was going to be the first giraffe ever to fly. Not fly on an airplane or some in some other form of artificial contraption, but really fly--unaided by mechanical objections. People (also creatures without wings) have speculate about the secret to non-mechanized flight before. Some believe that love can make them fly. Some believe in magical or supernatural powers. Some believe that one must jump off a cliff and forget to fall.

The giraffe was going to take a different approach. It was going to discover the necessity of flying. And the necessity would create the means.

But first, it was going to eat some leaves.

Then there was another pressing call. Completed, the giraffe returned its attention to its goal. Abigail wasn't the first giraffe to think of flying, of this she was fairly certain. This was the recommendation of the koala. What it had to do with flying, Frederick could not say.
